CSR & Sustainability

At Extrugs, CSR has always been an important part of our brand identity and strategy. It is extremely important for us to treat our employees with respect and work towards improving their life by providing good opportunities with better wages and a work life balance. Below are some of our policies which has helped us towards our goal to become an industry leader when it comes to CSR:

Non-Discrimination Policy:
We are an equal opportunity employer and we do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression/identity, age, disability, marital status or sexual orientation. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our staff, vendors, subcontractors and clients. We will take affirmative actions to ensure against any form of discrimination.

GoodWeave Certified and No Child Labor:
GoodWeave is a nonprofit organization founded in 1994 by Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi and is the leading global institution with a mission to end child labor in global supply chains through a market-based holistic and authentic system. We are GoodWeave certified vendor which means you can be assured that there is no child or forced labor involved in the making of our products. Having GoodWeave label on a product also means that we are supporting programs that invest in children's education and health.

Continuous Process improvements to make end products more sustainable and eco-friendly:
We periodically review and monitor various processes involved in the production so we can improve on them and provide a more sustainable product to our customer. We have identified wastage of raw material, use of chemicals and wastage of water to be major issues when it comes to rugs production. We train and educate our artisans and workers to follow a process where there is minimum wastage. Also we try to eliminate chemicals or chemical treatment where ever it is possible. We are also committed towards making more eco-friendly products by using raw materials which have lesser carbon footprint like using more natural wool which are sustainably sourced without any dyes and making more products using PET yarn (made from recycled plastic).

Working from home and ergonomically modified looms:
A lot of our traditional artisans work from home. Majority of these artisans are from poor families and have learned the art of weaving traditional rugs from their parents. At extrugs, we believe in supporting these families and proving more work to them. Working from home also eliminates the time/money wastage involved in commuting to production centers. We also provide ergonomically engineered looms and modify existing looms for better ergonomics for our women artisans.

Others policies which have major impacts:
  • Regular skill development training is provided to new and existing employees and independent artisans.
  • Regular training is provided to our employees on safety and their health which is also audited by 3rd party institutions.
  • We provide various benefits to our workers as per Indian Law and Factories Act.
